The pact is the first 5G licensing deal between the two firms and covers patent portfolios in artificial intelligence, compute, and networking, along with Qualcomm's purchase of certain non-cellular U.S. patents. While the arrangement is subject to Federal Trade Commission review, Huawei stated the deal provides it licensing income for the first time since 2001 and could push its total licensing revenue above $6.9B. The deal provides a legal framework for both parties to use each other's tech without litigation.
