Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski urged the Pentagon to reverse the broadcast decision, adding to opposition from lawmakers in both parties. “I would expect this from terrorists and dictators, but not here in America,” she said. Vice President JD Vance questioned whether the livestream would happen and said he would not watch. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth defended public viewing, saying: “People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things.”
The Pentagon confirmed Thursday that it would livestream the execution. The Army scheduled Hasan’s death by firing squad for Dec. 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. CT at Fort Hood, Texas, where he killed 13 people and wounded 32 in 2009. It would be the first US military execution since 1961. Trump approved the firing squad method following Hegseth’s recommendation.
