Internal engineers at Apple are testing 4 different hardware designs for a successor to the Vision Pro codenamed N224. These configurations include a compute and battery puck similar to Meta's approach, though some company executives prefer a completely integrated all-in-one design. Project leaders are currently lobbying against the cancellation of the effort, which internal sources describe as being on "life support."

The headset would ship in late 2028 or early 2029 if Apple continues development, though there is no guarantee the product will ever launch. The internal struggle stems from a belief within the team that Meta's VR glasses represent the form factor the original Vision Pro should have adopted.
