Tesla's newest electric cars can now serve as a power source for a residence through a feature available for vehicles ordered since October 1, 2026. The tool, called Powershare Home Backup, allows new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to extend a home's backup duration by more than 2 days when paired with a Powerwall 3 and a Wall Connector. No additional hardware is required for homes already equipped with those products, as compatibility is enabled via an over the air update.
