Rubio Schedules Acropolis Speech to Combat Great Power Competition

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Greece to urge allies to reverse "civilizational decline" in a scheduled address on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. ET. Speaking from the Acropolis in Athens, Rubio will call upon Americans and Europeans to defend their shared heritage and unite to confront a new era of great-power competition. According to the State Department, the speech will emphasize qualities of courage and ambition to spark a "great renewal of the Western spirit."

The Athens visit is part of a 3 nation European tour and coincides with the 6th Greece-U.S. Strategic Dialogue. Upon arrival, Rubio was welcomed by Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and noted that energy ties with Greece have reached new levels. He stressed the importance of the bilateral partnership in light of current tensions in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, echoing themes from a previous address in Munich.
