Sarsour, a lawful permanent resident for more than 30 years and the father of six U.S. citizens, remains free after a federal judge ordered his release from ICE custody in June. His legal team has 60 days to seek protection under the Convention Against Torture, with a trial expected in early 2027. While the administration has appealed the decision to keep him out of detention, the current ruling does not overturn the separate federal case that ended his 81 day stay in custody that began in March.
